Chelsea Manager Maresca Rejects Man City Links as Pure Rumour
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has branded fresh reports connecting him with a move to Manchester City as nothing but hearsay.
The 45-year-old, who previously worked as Pep Guardiola's assistant in Manchester, responded to the ongoing rumours surrounding his next move.
Maresca, appointed Chelsea boss in the summer of 2024, is under contract running until 2029, with a potential extra year available.
"It doesn't bother me at all because I know that is completely unfounded," Maresca said. "And at this moment, there is little room for such distractions."
He went on to explain, "First of all, because I have a contract here until 2029. And my focus, I said many times, is just about this club and I'm very proud to be here. But again, it's speculation. One week ago I was linked with a role in Italy with Juventus. So I don't pay attention because I know that is not true."
Chelsea, presently placed fourth in the Premier League, are set to face Newcastle United on Saturday in a lunchtime fixture.
Strain After Recent Comments
Maresca's most recent statement follow after he referred to a previous two-day spell as his most difficult since arriving at Chelsea.
Those initial remarks had fueled widespread speculation of a possible disagreement between the manager and the club's ownership hierarchy.
When pressed if he had discussed matters with the club's sporting directors, Maresca responded, "We are in the same facility, so we talk about different things. But about the Everton press conference, no."
The Italian did confirm he would "absolutely" stay at the club next season and called on the fans to "continue to support the team".
In more positive news, Maresca indicated that injured attackers Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could return sooner than expected, potentially available for a match against Aston Villa on 27 December.

The apparent strain between Maresca and the Chelsea board persists as an open wound that still cause concern.
While there has been no further escalation of the matter in the open, there has equally been no resolution forthcoming, creating the matter unaddressed.
