Four people lost their lives in Nairobi when armed personnel shot and deployed teargas to disperse massive crowds at a venue where statesman Raila Odinga's remains was lying in state.

Assemblies also overwhelmed nearby roads and attempted to breach the legislative building, where the government had originally scheduled the public viewing.

Although primarily recognized as an political challenger, Odinga became senior minister in 2008 and also struck a political pact with Ruto last year in a public service marked by changing partnerships.
