2K Hires Popular Battle Royale Producer to Boost Struggling Action Game Ambitious Title
The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the anticipated third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Change Follows Poor Feedback
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified team members about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a distinct direction.
The president noted that the team is now reimagining the project with a renewed approach, aiming to address community desires.
Trend of Key Acquisitions
The news follows a similar move taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the full content from the president's memo:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and innovative designers we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that relationship to continue.”
With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last autumn’s the game demo was informative. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It revealed the need for a sharper brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the criticism to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our audience.
The trust in this project grows every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome the new hire as the new Studio Head of the team. After some time of conversations, he starts with us on next week.
Ben’s leadership and expertise in the PVP shooter space is vast, having spent the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most well-known titles in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in welcoming him in the coming days. We are all eager to continue witnessing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the time to ahead.
David

The game lacks an confirmed release date or consoles, but enthusiasts can expect additional details as production continues.
